Attention to detail
All of the restored instruments sold
at Winchester Piano Centre have undergone thorough inspection by our trained
technicians.
On lower priced pianos, we check the entire instrument thoroughly
as a matter of course, fitting new sets of tapes, leathers and springs
if necessary. We also tune and regulate all our pianos to ensure
that each plays to its full potential. We clean and tidy all pianos
inside and out, buff all brass ware and keys, and fit brand new
felts to give a cared-for look even in old, inexpensive instruments.
On higher priced pianos, proportionately more work has been carried
out, with the most expensive pianos being those which have undergone
full restringing and re-pining, action overhaul and casework. We pride
ourselves on paying the most attention to detail in every price bracket
and will gladly dismantle pianos to show the extent of work that has
been carried out.
Actions
We offer a full range
of action work including recentring, re-bushing keys, fitting new
tapes, leathers, springs and cushions and recovering hammers. If a
complete rebuild is not necessary, we can carry out any type of minor
repair such as regulating. Full or partial restring/repin can also
be carried out on both uprights and grands.
Casework
We can source replacement
parts, re-veneer or simply clean and tidy the woodwork. Cases can
be re-French polished, or just touched up where necessary. Finishes
can be varied according to your preference, from modern lacquer to
traditional French polish. High gloss polyester can also be arranged.
We can also replace chipped or cracked key tops as a finishing touch.
Sometimes modernisation can mean that original turned legs are replaced
with straight ones. We can make new turned legs and lyres for grand
pianos, or perhaps ornate columns for uprights if required. Fretted
music desks are also available in several designs.
